Recently, I’ve been traveling a fair amount and have found myself in a bit of a situation. I found myself at a breakfast buffet at my hotel; you know the ones, – cereal, oatmeal, eggs station, bread, meats, etc. If your buffet lacks an egg station, you should pass. So, I have a strategy for breakfast buffets. I plan to always start with a little reconnaissance mission. I check out all the choices, do a quick fly-by, and then zero in on my target breakfast, which these days start with oatmeal and peanut butter (check it out, you won’t be disappointed). So, on this mission, I was about to help myself, and bam! Out of nowhere comes a line cutter! This line cutter was so egregious that they took the last of what I was going for. Now, I’m thinking, “Dang, it must be their first time”! Has this ever happened to you? This made me think of other first-time experiences. The first time you ever….you can fill in the blanks here and let your imagination take you away a second. I’ll wait here for you.
Returning to football, well, the first time I ever saw Patrick Mahomes in a playoff game live at Arrowhead Stadium, you could easily see that he was different. He has taken us all on this fantastic 6-year ride that seems unending, and right when we think we’ve seen it all, we are all about to go on a new ride. This new ride is to see if these Chiefs can accomplish a historical first-time thing: win the Super Bowl for 3 straight years, a 3-peat. Simply, no NFL team has ever done it in the history of the Super Bowl era. There’s good reason why this is so hard; for one, it’s a physical game, and players get injured. Also, there are free agents; players understandably need to get paid, so they come and go. So even winning back-to-back is extremely difficult; the last to do it was the Patriots twenty years ago. By winning last year’s Super Bowl, Our Chiefs have put themselves in a class of only 8 other franchises in the history of the NFL who’ve gone back-to-back. None of those teams ever made it to the Super Bowl in year 3. None of those teams had a Patrick Mahomes. For the 2024 version of the Chiefs, some first-timers will be joining us on this ride! Veteran Players would consider our first-timers, Line Cutters. So let’s meet some of them.
I want to introduce Carson Steele, our rookie running back who made the team. This guy runs over people; he is amazingly physical, and he finishes runs with punishment to the tacklers. The Man of Steel is going to provide us with all sorts of fun this season. I can’t wait to see how Andy Reid utilizes his physicality. Another new Chief is wide receiver Xavier Worthy. Worthy’s 4.2 speed in the 40-yard dash is going to create some incredible opportunities for MVPat to look over the top for quick strikes. The threat of Worthy’s speed is so dangerous that when opposing defenses try to cover him, the middle of the field will open for Taylor’s BF, and last year’s sensation Rashee Rice. Another new face this year is tight-end Jared Wiley. Something about how this young man cruises the field reminds me of a young Travis. I can’t wait to see how he progresses. Kingsley Suamatalia is an all-important new Chief who will start at left tackle. This young man has the unenviable task of protecting MVPats blind side. Kingsley is physical and fast; watch him, especially on jet-sweep plays that go to Xavier Worthy. We don’t often cheer for the Offensive Line, but we should cheer for this young guy all year because his role will be super-important. Jaden Hicks is another new Chief who will be patrolling the secondary as a Strong Safety. This young man is physical and has a nose for the ball. He is like a new toy for our super-talented defensive whiz Spags. I can’t wait to see this kid unleashed on some creative blitzes. Finally, another new face for this year’s Chiefs is Hollywood Brown. How fitting for the attempt at history that the Chiefs would go Hollywood! Hollywood Brown is a speedy receiver who, along with Xavier Worthy, will require defenses to either respect their speed or watch Travis and Rashee devour the middle of the field.
The 2024 Offense may very well be the most talent that we have seen on Offense in the Mahomes era. Perhaps, 2d best. With our great Defense, why shouldn’t we expect great things in 2024-2025? What a show we are about to see.
Speaking of Shows, have you ever wanted to go to “The Show?” These past 24 months have put that show front and center, and with the addition of Taylor and all of her Swifties joining forces and being welcomed into the Chiefs Kingdom, the show has truly improved.
I remember, before Taylor’s mega success, there was once a much-anticipated concert tour. This tour came on the backside of the then-most successful album of all time. I’m talking about Michael Jackson’s Thriller Album. At the time, MJ went on tour with his famous brothers, calling this tour the Victory Tour. This tour was, after all of the moonwalking, and truly it was a party that was a must-see. I recall, like Taylor’s Era, that show was impossible to attend. It was THE ticket in it’s day. Does anyone want to take a guess where the Victory Tour started? That’s right; it was kicked off in Arrowhead Stadium, just as we will be on Thursday night.
This whole football season will be chronicled by experts about our Chiefs’ drive for a three-peat. Will they? Won’t they? This is going to be a season-long Victory Tour whereby every team that the Chiefs face will look to take them down. Let’s face it: much of the country is tired of our Chiefs, not us in the Kingdom. We’ve waited for this moment for far too long and have a chance to be rewarded with a never-completed feat by any of the greatest franchises in NFL History. As we get to kick off this 2024 version of the Chiefs, I’m reminded that this Victory Tour is one that we won’t want to miss. If you can catch a game live, do it. We have arrived at a historical moment, and it’s going to last the entire season!
