Did you go through that period when everyone seemed hooked on the next reality show? I mean, How many Real Housewives shows are still going? What was considered the best of them? I was always drawn to Big Brother personally and was never shocked to see who would back-stab whom. In the reality world of these 2024-2025 Chiefs, I am thankful that our team has three rock-solid Big Brothers: Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones, and these guys understand how to deal with reality. I can recall once talking to a friend from California on how to deal with the reality of a break-up and his advice was priceless: “Dude, acknowledge and move on”.
I was reflecting on the best Championship teams I’ve ever watched and wondered what would’ve happened to those teams if they lost their top 2 wide receivers and their number one running back? For example, take away Jerry Rice, John Taylor, and Roger Craig from the ’80s 49ers. Do they even score a point? What about taking away Michael Irvin, Alvin Harper and Emmit Smith? What about the ’70s Pittsburgh Steelers minus Swann, Stallworth, and Franco? This impossibility is exactly our Chiefs’ reality as it stands presently. We have lost Hollywood, Rashee, and Pacheco; however, if you ask the experts which team is favored to win the AFC, most would tell you incredibly that it’s still our Chiefs. That says a great deal about our system, our quarterback, our defense, our coaching, and our depth. Stop for a moment, think about it, and be thankful. Acknowledge!
What is your move when you are forced to have a reality check? When life throws you a gut punch you never saw coming, do you shrivel up or fight back? In the case of these Chiefs, this moment occurred on Sunday, and we all saw it when Rashee went down. At the moment, Patrick Mahomes had just thrown a head-scratching interception that I’m still wondering about, and yet after the interception, the Chiefs found themselves trailing 10-0, with no Double R to help us.
Spotting the Chargers a 10-point lead made me think we have them right where we want them because Patrick Mahomes is an insane 13-12 in games he trails by 10. For comparison, Tom Brady was 36-61 in his career. Put another way, if the Chiefs go down by 10, they have a better chance of winning than losing. Simply incredible.
So, the gut punch has arrived, and reality has set in. We will have to do without Rashee for a while, maybe all season. I’m dialed into Chiefs Kingdom on social media, and I don’t sense any panic. The reason is that we have our 3 big brothers, Kelce, Jones, Mahomes, they are the Rock of this dynasty, and they refuse to let us falter. Almost every back-to-back Dynasty has ended due to injury or the departure of a key player. We’ve lost three, and aren’t we all anxious to see how these Chiefs will find new ways to win?
The reality is these Chiefs have an improving and stingy defense, two all-world Offensive players, and an intriguing speedster in Xavier Worthy who now will take his turn to show us some magic. When the gut punch hit, like a lightning bolt shortly after Rashee went down, Patrick found Xavier Worthy streaking downfield for a 54-yard Bomb, and just like that, in Cali, the reality was “acknowledged, and we had moved on” to the Worthy era. I can’t wait to see the new way our Chiefs will compete on Monday Night. The Saints will present another great challenge with their early-season offensive machine. Our big brother trio will be ready, and Arrowhead should be rocking. Let’s go!
