Questions Questions

Recently, I was invited to a farewell party for a co-worker. There was the normal we will miss you blah blah, and then it was Goodbye Charlie. Nothing out of the ordinary to report; however, the next day, I saw my co-worker return to work, and then again the day after. I wasn’t exactly sure of the rules on farewell boomerangs, so it led to some questions. Are returns allowed after accepting farewells? If you take the farewell party and gifts, can you return? I felt that I needed to throw the red challenge flag. Can we get a referee’s ruling in New York on that? I wondered about a similar situation in wedding cancellations. If you give an engagement gift and the wedding falls through, is it permissible for the bride or groom to keep the gifts? I have so many questions!

This week, our Chiefs were hopeful to gain the statement victory we’ve all been seeking all year, but many experts were left dumbfounded by the Chief’s 21-7 victory over the Cleveland Browns. The Chiefs started out by answering an important question which was at Left Tackle. Would the Chiefs move all-pro Joe Thuney from left guard to Left Tackle to protect Patrick Mahomes? Would the DJ suit-up to play? Would Wanya Morris get another shot at starting? Andy Reid answered that question by starting Joe Thuney at Left Tackle. Thuney did an acceptable job of protecting Patrick Mahomes. However, MVPat was pressured all afternoon and ultimately suffered a high-ankle sprain, resulting in him not finishing the game and leaving a question about if he should start or rest during this grueling 3-game in 11-day stretch.

Our Defense finally showed up hugely and answered some critical questions. Would Trent McDuffie ever intercept a pass? Is Charles Omenihu going to make a difference down the stretch for our Defense? Check and Check. The ongoing question is whether MVPat will ever connect on a deep throw this season. He seemed to miss on quite a few shots, but I checked into this a bit and discovered that there were wind gusts up to about 20 MPH during the game – so it’s understandable.

It’s been quite a ride, Chiefs Kingdom, and there is only one team in the NFL who is sitting around with a record of 13-1, and that belongs to our Chiefs. As hard as it has appeared all season, the Chiefs have answered nearly every question and test.

We are down to the final three games, and the calculus for the Chiefs gaining home field is that their magic number is two. So any combination of Chiefs wins or Bills losses equaling two will give the Chiefs home field at Arrowhead. This season, more than any other, it feels like the home field will make all the difference in who will make it to the Super Bowl.

Sometimes our unanswered questions come from an anxiousness in needing to know how the end will play-out. The fun of this journey we have been on for three years is that we simply don’t know, but we find out that our team is standing at the end of these seasons. Why should we be anxious? It’s a sloppy, beautiful weekly journey that has us on this new ride with a home field trip to friendly Arrowhead as the stakes if we can just win two of the following three games. If you look closely it could be that the Defense is starting to make that move! As for the Offense, Welcome back Hollywood Brown Let’s go!
