Having Faith
Faith is a big F word. According to the Bible, Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Faith is a vast concept and the beacon that many people live by. Many of our life’s decisions are grounded in Faith. I have Faith that when I board the plane to Arrowhead on Saturday, I will arrive safely and on time. I have Faith that when I present my tickets, the scanner will read them and let me in to see the most incredible football team assembled attempt a feat that’s never occurred, which is to begin the next step in winning a 3rd consecutive Super Bowl. Daily we all make decisions about Faith. I love the idea of assurances of what we don’t see, and this leads me to our Chiefs and this season’s chase for greatness.
The playoffs are now here, and now more than ever, the stakes are raised for every play. We are in a new season; if you lose, your team goes to Cabo for the winter. Reflecting on that point, perhaps these Chiefs aren’t the beachy guys since they haven’t lost much in these moments. There’s something electric about the NFL playoffs. It’s the ultimate do-or-die situation. After each game, someone gets kicked off the island or kicked out of the house, depending on your reality show preference. These next few weeks will put a dent of fear into Chiefs Kingdom. One thing we should expect by now is that it is likely that our team gets down early in games, we may even trail going into the 4th quarter. At these moments of potential despair is when Faith kicks in. In some of life’s darkest moments, Faith in our Savior will get us through.
Remember where the run started? Our team trailed the Texans 24-0 in January 2020. Remember when we trailed the 49ers in the Superbowl by 10 points going into the 4th quarter? Remember when we trailed by 3 points with 13 ticks left on the game clock? As recently as last year, recall when the Ravens were making a bid to come back in the AFC title game, and then Lajarius Sneed stuck out his paw to knock away a sure touchdown? As Chiefs fans, we are used to these moments of despair and the losing that follows; however, since MVPat has come on the scene, we have a different reality. Our quarterback finds a way, our defense finds a way.
It’s no secret these Chiefs are a team of Faith. This team’s main leaders, coaches, and even the ownership profess their Faith openly in the Savior Jesus Christ. I listened to a clip of their Team Chaplain, Marcellus Casey, who addressed the team before the Steelers game. Casey’s message was about having the courage to climb, and when you hit the mountaintop, what do you do? You keep climbing! The Chiefs are a team of climbers, having climbed the championship mountain back to back already. They form a brotherhood of the greatest collection of assembled teammates and talents.
As Chiefs fans, we believe this; we have Faith! Chiefs Kingdom believes that we are about to witness a coronation of the greatest champion in the history of this sport. It begins on Saturday in front of our deafeningly loud Arrowhead Stadium. The party’s about to start. Let’s go!
