Crossroads
Did you catch it? It was a moment of truth in the season opener. The situation was 3rd and 14, Chargers have the ball, Chiefs trailing 27-21, 4th quarter, and a tad over 2 minutes to go. A Chiefs stop in that moment will hand the ball back to MVPat with a chance to win it on the final drive. Chris Jones is all set to contain Justin Herbert, and just like that, at the crossroad moment, Chris Jones goes inside, Herbert sneaks outside, gains the 1st down to ice the game. It was a choice in the heat of the battle, an instinct. Chris Jones made his move, Herbert made his, and that was that. Game Over. Chiefs lose.
Have you ever had that crossroad moment? That key decision moment where the wrong move will cost ya. In the movie The Hangover, Stu the Dentist has the moment of truth; he can either be whipped by his live-in girlfriend or finally stand up and call her out, sending her packing. He finally makes the move that anyone would make and he ditches her. Remember?
Another great moment of truth occurs in the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus Christ is about to be handed over to his captors, and Peter pledges that he will never deny his friend, but as the guards come to take Jesus, sure enough, Peter denies him. Such a crossroad moment, and Peter wilted under pressure. Who could really blame him? He was scared, he might be arrested and tortured which is exactly what happened to his Savior. So what did God do with Peter’s mistake? God presented Peter with a new opportunity on resurrection Sunday. Peter ran to the empty Tomb, and immediately upon inspecting it, he knew that his Savior had risen. Peter experienced a life-changing do-over after his crossroads, and he became one of the most important messengers of the Christian movement in the history of the world. God can use your crossroad moment and set your life on its course!
You never know when a crossroad moment can be life-changing or season-changing!
Chiefs Kingdom, we find ourselves in an early-season crossroad moment. Given the injury to Xavier Worthy, these Chiefs are very thin at wide receiver, yet somehow it feels like they are on the verge of a breakout. I was encouraged by the deep throws to Hollywood Brown and Tyquan Thornton in the season opener. If the Chiefs can throw deep with success that should open the Offense up.
We may see a breakout of rookie Running Back Brashard Smith on Sunday. The Chiefs are going to need to find ways to attack and stretch this Eagles defense. We didn’t see the Offense breakout their new RB weapon vs the Chargers, against the Eagles we will need as much firepower as we can get.
This Chiefs franchise is too proud to see a Super Bowl repeat in front of Chiefs Kingdom. The Chiefs will be hungry; they will take shots. I expect the Chiefs to attack early in this revenge game. Logic favors the Eagles, but this game will be played in front of a hungry Arrowhead crowd and an inspired Chiefs team that has something to prove after last year’s Super Bowl. If Chris Jones has another opportunity to make the play at the crossroad, he will! Let’s go!
