Do you remember the 21st of September?
Such a classic tune by Earth, Wind, and Fire, and it certainly marks the beginning of this season as our Chiefs finally got in the win column.
Do you find that you have a quirky memory? What triggers memories for you? For me, it’s music always. One thing I struggle to remember is precisely where I park my car in airports, which always catches me off guard. People tell me to take pictures, but it’s so much more fun winging it and trying to retrace the steps. You know what I mean? Our chiefs finally remembered how to play winning offensive football, and that was overdue.
What we saw Sunday vs the Giants was a commitment to running, and it was how they ran that impressed me. Jet sweeps to Nikko Remigio, and Brashard Smith were fun, and effective.
Our running game combined for 105 yards, this time not led by mvpat! So the Chiefs remembered how to get the running game out of park, which sparked an inspiring second-half performance. That’s something they will build off.
Speaking of running, there’s a great quote by the apostle paul. Remember that God converted Paul to lead the Gentiles (non-Jewish) Jesus followers, and his writings have inspired generations of followers. Paul wrote, “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.” (1 Corinthians 9:24). I love this verse because it’s an encouragement to press forward despite life’s challenges that any of us deal with.
Chiefs Kingdom, our Chiefs need to run so that they can win the ultimate football prize!
As we look forward to this weekend’s game against the Ravens, I expect they will bring their A game. Derrick Henry seems angry, Lamar Jackson has come up short a few times this year, so this game will be a huge challenge, and for good measure, the Chiefs are underdogs at Arrowhead!
The return of Xavier Worthy, and the open space that the jet sweeps can create should open things up for the deeper shots that we all want to see! Our Chiefs will be able to run with success against the Ravens’ injured front seven, which is currently among the league’s worst at stopping the run.
