The Eye Test

The Eye Test

Can you read the 20/20 test on the eye chart? I’m referring to that last line that you read to the eye doctor during your eye exam. If you are curious and want to know its DEFPOTEC. I can remember in grade school, I would memorize that line before taking an eye exam just so I could avoid having to wear glasses, until it was finally time in High School. Once I got to High School, I couldn’t read the blackboard, and it was time to admit what my eyes were telling me. As we watch the 2025 Chiefs, it’s time to put them to the eye test and see what it’s telling us.

Coming off the Week One game vs the Chargers, there was a lot at stake in this game. This game was a Super Bowl revenge game. The Eagles game was a test. Were these Chiefs the same team that got whalloped in New Orleans by the Eagles, or was this a better version? So what did our Eyes tell us?

We learned that our defense is a proud unit, and the talk of the demise of the Chiefs’ defense is greatly exaggerated. The Chiefs’ defense held Saquon Barkley to 88 yards rushing, and they held Jalen Hurts to 101 yards passing. The defense passed the eye test; they are good and can only improve. We should have all been concerned after Week one, Justin Herbert gashed the defense time and again with big passes. This week-two defense vs the reigning champion Eagles refocused our attention on the secondary, and the sack heard round the world by rookie Omar Norman Lott. I gained a renewed confidence in who they are, and we know that time has shown us that our defense will progress as the year unfolds—giant checkmark on this eye test to our defense.

Speaking of eye tests, who can forget one of the world’s most historic eye tests that happened about 2,000 years ago? Tom was his name, and although many of his friends believed that they had seen the risen Savior, Thomas himself declared, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe”. One week passed by, and sure enough, Jesus confronted Tom and told him to place his hands exactly where Tom had asked. In that moment, Tom believed. Thomas, who was a doubter, believed because he actually saw first-hand the proof he was seeking. Sometimes that’s how God is: he will show you proof of his presence in a very personal way. Take heart, Chiefs Kingdom, that even if you doubt, if you are a seeker, God will meet you and show you his presence just as he did with Thomas. I love that Jesus took a week, which is precisely how much time we will have until the next eye test with our Chiefs.

The following eye test will come on Sunday evening against the NY Giants. This time, our team will begin to gain some firepower with the addition of rookie WR Jalen Royals and speedster Xavier Worthy. These are overdue additions to an offense that surely can use a heavenly boost. This is an important moment in the early season to see if our Offense is finally ready to take a step forward. I expect that we will see some WR screens to both of these young guys while hopefully seeing Xavier Worthy stretch the Giants defense. It feels like our Offense is about ready to pass an important early season test. Lets go!
