Wait for it
This is one of my favorite phrases, know what I mean? It makes you pause till the end of that video clip before swiping. Wait for it!
Some of our Chiefs Kingdom faithful have grown a little impatient, and some in the national media are writing our Chiefs off each week.
Relax, everyone, the story is still being written, but there are some promising signs.
In the game against the Jags, we saw MVPAT continue to look for the downfield shots with success.
The Chiefs scored four touchdowns and were on the way to a fifth if not for a highly unusual second red-zone pick off MVPat this season. Do we think he won’t fix this? Tyquan Thornton continued his season-long statement by catching another long pass for 34 yards. Hollywood had a beautiful 20-yard sideline grab, we saw Kareem Hunt grind out two ground touchdowns, and a stunning 33-yard burst to get the Chiefs out of trouble. Isiah Pacheco had his longest run of this year at 16 yards. This Chiefs Offense is continuing the ascension with visible progress. Do you notice that we are no longer discussing our Offensive Line? That’s because this Offensive Line is improving and starting to cook. In the last eight quarters, they have given up zero sacks. With MVPat gaining weekly confidence in the pass-blocking that will continue to allow him to look downfield for big strikes.
Do any of us truly know more about offensive lines than our Andy’s? Reid and Heck? Wait for it, Chiefs Kingdom!
Thinking of patience, I am reminded of a scene from the book of Exodus in the Bible. The Israelites were being freed from slavery when God sent plagues to the nation of Egypt to free them. God sent plagues such as locusts and turned the Nile River to blood. So the Egyptians knew that this God meant business, so they let the Israelites, who were the slaves of Egypt, free. After a short while the Egyptians who felt duped decided that they would hunt down their slaves and bring them back home to Egypt. So in the escape, the Israelites found themselves at the foot of the Red Sea, cornered, with the Egyptian army on one side and seemingly nowhere to go with the Red Sea in front of them. So Exodus 14 v 14 sums up the situation. “The Lord will fight for you, you only need to be still”. Translation, wait for it! We know what happened next: God parted the Red Sea waters and gave them the way out. This is the lesson for us: if you trust in God, he will fight your battles for you!
Speaking of battles, our Chiefs are up for a big one on Sunday against another Super Bowl Contender, the Detroit Lions. The Lions Offense is the top-scoring Offense in the NFL this season. The Lions have weapons everywhere you look at running back, wide receiver, and tight end. The Lions’ Offense will challenge the Chiefs; the key will be to limit the Lions’ running game. So far in 2025, the Chiefs’ defense has limited all of the running backs they’ve faced, and haven’t given up 100 yards to a running back in a regular-season game since Christmas 2023. Stopping the run will be the key for the Chiefs Defense.
When the Chiefs have the ball, I expect continued great play from Tyquan Thornton. We need to give this guy a nickname! He’s about due to break 100 yards receiving, with last week being his career best in Kansas City at 90 yards. I expect the Chiefs to build on the running success we are seeing from our law firm trio of Hunt, Smith, and Pacheco. There’s no need to panic, Chiefs fans; that last loss was against a talented Jaguars team. This is the last week without Rashee Rice; things are about to get very interesting. Wait for it! Let’s go!
